Electric scooters are an undeniably awesome way to get around. Unlike how it is with electric skateboards, it doesn’t really take much practice to figure out how to ride a scooter safely. You also don’t need a license like you do with a motorcycle or a car. And best of all? You also don’t have to pay for gas or insurance as an electric scooter owner. As such, it’s not surprising that companies like Lime and Bird are using scooters to take over the world. But if you’d rather not rent scooters from a rideshare program, check out these awesome ones that you can buy outright.

Gotrax GKS Electric Scooter

The GoTrax GKS is a kid’s electric scooter powered by a 150-Watt battery rated at 25.2 volts. This powers it with a maximum speed of 7.5 mph and can cover a distance of 4 miles.

This might not be that much, but it’s already sufficient for a kid still learning how to ride a scooter. Its wheels are six-inches big that ensures a smooth and comfortable ride despite going through mildly rocky pathways.

The GoTrax GKS is one of the lightest electric scooters in the market today as it only weighs a light 17.8 lbs. It comes in 5 different colors. Meanwhile, its dimensions measure 34 in. x 15 in. x 32 in.

Segway Ninebot MAX Electric Kick Scooter

Segway pretty much launched the electric scooter market with its personal transporter, and while that device didn’t exactly take off, the company has had more success with less-futuristic devices. The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter Max doesn’t look like something out of a sci-fi movie, but what it lacks in style, it makes up for in performance. It’s one of the best electric scooters for those who want a long and comfortable ride. Check out the rest of our Segway Ninebot Kickscooter Max review to see what else we liked about this massive electric scooter.

Outside of models with full suspension, the Ninebot Kickscooter Max is one of the beefiest electric scooters around. It has nice, large 10-inch inflatable tires, a thick downtube, and a large, rubber-clad deck with a massive battery underneath. It’s a stark contrast to the svelte Unagi Model One; side by side, it’s like looking at a Miata next to a Hummer.

One of the things I liked the most about the Kickscooter Max was its bell. Most electric scooters I’ve tested treat this safety feature as an afterthought, strapping on a dinky little ringer. The Kickscooter Max’s bell, though, is big and loud. And, instead of having to shift your thumb to ring it, the Kickscooter’s bell is built into the left handlebar, so all you have to do is twist your wrist.

PROS:

  • Can tackle slopes up to 10 degrees
  • Comfortable ride
  • Loud, easy to use bell

CONS:

  • Heavy

Key Features:

  • Speed up to 15.5 mph
  • 220Lbs Weight Load
  • 6H Fast Charging

Specification:

  • Brand: Segway
  • Model: B08C143ZDW
  • Weight:41.2 pounds

GoTrax GXL V2

We review the Gotrax GXL Commuter V2 — an inexpensive, but full-featured scooter with disc brakes, decent range, and pneumatic tires. It’s a perfect scooter for beginners and currently steeply discounted.

We previously ranked the GXL V2 the best electric scooter under $300 for a good reason (it has since been replaced by the newer Xr). It is well-built and has an excellent balance of weight, range, and features. The GXL Commuter V2 has the safety and ride quality features we stress the most: quality brakes, pneumatic tires, and built-in lights.

We think the GXL V2 is an ideal scooter for beginners who want something inexpensive, but functional. It is light enough for most to carry, has good brakes, decent range — yet won’t break the bank.

  • Excellent value
  • Great features
  • Quality construction and design

CONS:

  • Underpowered for heavier riders

Key Features:

  • Top Speed: 15.5mph
  • Maximum motor power: 500W
  • Battery voltage: 36V

Razor is surely one of the best brands when it comes to electric scooters. Here’s another one from them, the Razor E300, which is powered by a high-torque 250-watt chain-driven motor that can reach maximum speeds of up to 15 mph.

This is targeted towards 13-years-old and above kids as well as for adults. Batteries are 24v sealed lead-acid and can provide a running time of 40 minutes.

Acceleration control is through twist actuation for easy handling. Grips are made from soft rubber as well, which is made for comfort. You’ll also find the retractable kickstand handy when parking in different areas.

Frame and fork are still made from durable steel material and can accomodate a maximum weight of 220 lbs. The frame measures 26.2 in. with an 8-inch width. The tires are also big as it measures 9 inches. This weighs around 30 lbs.

XPRIT Electric Scooter

The company Xprit has one aim and that is to provide good products at a very fair price. If you’re looking for long distance and a high top speed then this one might not cut it for you. But for what you pay I’d say you can get a lot of value for your money. Especially if you are buying one for the family youngsters to ride on. Depending on their weight they can pretty much ride for as long as they can stay awake.

The Xprit electric scooter comes with a lot of power, it might not be able to deliver a mind-blowing ride for an adult. But it sure is good enough for most kids and adults needs.

As expected it is stripped of any fancy features that you might find on other scooters. This in order to keep that price tag of theirs down to a minimum.  Even though this model is very cheap the material used is still comparable to many of the more expensive units. The riding specifics are too. You get a good 12.4 mph top speed and a range somewhere between 8-13 miles on a single charge. However, the latter number was un-achievable with my 168 lbs.

PROS:

  • Great battery capacity
  • Nice and well-working folding system
  • Simple is sometimes the best
  • Stylish with red details

CONS:

  • No rear footbrake

Key Features:

  • Full aluminum alloy frame durable and fast acceleration
  • 8-13 miles range with single charge
  • 12.4 mph top speed
  • 200 lbs max supported weight

Specification:

  • Brand: XPRIT
  • Model: B082XMCT25
  • Weight: Weight 23 lbs

Electric Scooters for Kids Buying Guide

  • Motor: The electric scooters are equipped with different motors that will determine the speed. You, therefore, need to find a perfect scooter that comes with a powerful hub motor that will deliver great speed. Some of these products have 100W motors while some have up to 500W motors. For amazing speed and great riding, get a product with 300W or more.
  • Wheels: Secondly, find a quality scooter that has wider larger motors. You need to get a quality scooter that comes with a bigger wheel that will move perfectly on every surface. For instance, get a product with 8.5-inches pneumatic tires for comfy riding on every terrain.
  • Safety: You should get a very safe and efficient electric scooter that will guarantee the safety of the kid. The scooter should have both front and rear shock absorbers. Besides this, it should have improved braking for the safety of the rider.
